Lefties are fond of saying that we live in a racist country. This is not because that’s a true statement. It’s mostly because sowing discord like that helps them maximize their political power.
Now, I will admit that there is a certain amount of racism in this country. The human being is, at least to some extent, a tribal animal, and some tribal aspects of the human personality will not be eradicated. Other aspects of the human beast that will never be ended are the out-group homogeneity bias and snobbery. The human being is a flawed creature.
But you know what would NOT happen in a country that could be described as racist?
Our country is less racist than any other country in the history of the world. Those who tar it with that brush deserve nothing but our scorn.
I’d just like to pull this quote out of the article ” As a whole, about 63 percent of those surveyed say it “would be fine” if a family member were to marry outside their own race.”
That would be 37% who would not find it “fine” for a family member to marry outside their race. Thats a lot. It’s entirely possible to love this country and criticize it for cultural or political reasons.
Do you think you can find any significant population in which there is a smaller minority who would disapprove?
I honestly don’t know. But just because we may be “less racist” then other countries, doesn’t mean we’re above criticism, or are not racist.
As one who grew up in a racist environment, that shit is insidious, and it can be hard to escape. It creeps out in little ways, and can certainly have an effect on your subconscious, and conscious if you’re not watching.
Well, I would suspect that a certain amount of tribalism is inherent in human nature. As such, it is unrealistic to think that it can be completely eradicated. It’s like lust, greed, envy, sloth, etc. Sure, a bit of criticism is okay and often helpful. But saying that what may be the least racist society in history is characterized principally by what racism it does have is obscene.
No, racism will never be completely eradicated, and yes humans are flawed. It doesn’t make it okay, nor acceptable.
Sides Ari, squeaky wheels gets the grease. The most obnoxious of any group becomes what the opposition critiques and ends up assuming represents the majority of that group. My “side” gets the guy who wants to walk in public naked and with his scrotum inflated, your “side” gets the fire and brimstone religious type with the poorly hidden fetish of questionable taste and hypocritical proportions. Either way, rational people lose.
I didn’t say it makes it acceptable. But that characterization is still obscene.
